Into the vortex of a turbulent mind.
What is true happiness? I don't get it.
Yeah I don't get it either. When I saw this my first thought was 'well I guess I haven't cut deep enough'. And then I chided my self for the stereotypical thoughts.
I recently worked out the formula for Happiness, I believe. There's a lot that goes into the derivation, but I came out with this.Happiness = Freedom(Purpose) + Freedom(Time)refactoring then givesHappiness = Freedom(Purpose + Time)where Purpose = "What I want to do" NOT "What I think others want me to do"In plain English, it amounts to: Happiness is having the Freedom of choosing your Purpose and having the Freedom of Time in order to live it. I'm undecided on the Time component as it could arguably be factored into Freedom, but I like having it factored out explicitly.
The world conditions us to believe that being given our Purpose will make us Happy. To my mind this plays into our ancient survival requirement to be part of a greater community. This is bullshit, imo.In other words, the world tells us thatHappiness = PurposeSome more enlightened people think that the following is enough:Happiness = Freedom(Purpose)Again, not enough. You may have had the Freedom to choose your Purpose, but if you have not the Freedom of Time (e.g. you are stuck in a cubicle 9 hours a day) then you will never be Happy. Conversely, some people think that Freedom of Time will bring them Happiness. So,Happiness = Freedom(Time)Clearly, that's no good either...
Leave me a comment! It makes me feel good and less paranoid about talking to myself =)
